Involvement in the Communities in Which We Operate is a Longstanding Principle of Kaman

We are strong supporters of education, including meritorious children of our employees, students pursuing engineering degrees, museums with educational programs and various local educational programs across the country. We also support charitable and civic organizations such as arts councils, boy and girl scouts, food pantries, and health organizations.

scholarship

Kaman Scholarships

Kaman Corporation awards annually competitive merit based scholarships to the sons and daughters of our employees. Scholarships are awarded to exceptionally able high school students and provide an annual stipend (renewed annually based on academic performance) for up to four years of study or until baccalaureate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first.

The program is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Additional information and applications are available from local human resource departments.

Team America Rocketry Challenge

Kaman Corporation is proud to sponsor the Aerospace Industry Association’s Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). TARC is a program that promotes young Americans’ interest in careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Approximately 4,000 students from across the United States participate in the competition each year.

Our founder, Charles Kaman, competed in and won model glider competitions as a high school student in the 1930’s. Those experiences helped foster his burning desire for a career in aviation. It was a dream he not only realized, but one that led him to become one of the great aviation pioneers of the twentieth century.

We view TARC as the modern day equivalent of Charlie’s glider competitions. Perhaps we will help ignite in one of its participants the passion that propelled Charlie to greatness.

Fidelco

Fidelco

Our community and philanthropic involvement is deep-seated and dates back decades. Our founder, Charles Kaman, and his wife Roberta (Robbie) founded the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation more than fifty years ago. Fidelco, the only guide dog school in New England, breeds and trains German shepards to promote increased independence to men and women who are blind. The program is led by the Kamans’ Fidelco-pioneered In-Community Placement in the United States; a process that allows guide dog users to be trained in the communities where they live and work. Kaman Corporation remains a proud sponsor of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation in memory of Charles and Robbie Kaman.

Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)

Kaman is a proud supporter of CREC and its Academy of Aerospace and Engineering. At the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, students learn through industry partnerships, theme-based career pathways and a rigorous core curriculum. Students identify and apply to competitive undergraduate programs that match their aptitudes, interests and goals. The school is located less than a quarter mile from Kaman’s Bloomfield, Connecticut campus. The close proximity has allowed the two organizations to foster a unique mentoring relationship in which Kaman employees mentor students and provide hands on interaction with a thriving aerospace manufacturing organization.

The partnership was recently focused on a recent edition of WFSB’s “Cool Schools” segment.
