Kaman Receives $3 Million Order For Oil and Gas Drilling Motors

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--Jan. 4-- Kaman Corporation (NASDAQ:KAMNA) today announced that a unit of its Kaman Aerospace subsidiary, the Electromagnetics Development Center in Hudson, Mass., has received a $3 million order from TESCO Corporation of Calgary, Alberta, Canada to provide additional advanced permanent magnet (PM) motors and electronic drives for oil and gas drilling equipment.

The contract calls for the Electromagnetics Development Center to begin deliveries of its Model PA44 motors and MD-500 modular motor drives to TESCO in February 2001.

TESCO will use the Kaman motors in all three models of its electric top drives, including its newest 1,350 horsepower model. TESCO is a world leader in oil and gas drilling technology. TESCO top drives are used around the world in land-based and offshore drilling rigs.

The order is the latest in a series of contracts from TESCO that began in 1996 when TESCO introduced Kaman permanent magnet motors in oil and gas drilling machinery. Since then, Kaman's powerful and compact motors and electronics have earned a reputation for outstanding performance and reliability in drilling operations around the world, from the Canadian Arctic to the jungles of Indonesia.

The Electromagnetics Development Center, a leading developer and manufacturer of high performance electric drive motors, is part of Kaman Aerospace Corp., a subsidiary of Kaman Corp. Based in Bloomfield, Conn., Kaman Aerospace manufactures SH-2G Super Seasprite and K-MAX helicopters, and is a major subcontractor for commercial and military aircraft, including all current Boeing commercial airliners and the C-17 transport, as well as various models of the MD Helicopters family.
