Greg Lachenmayer, Seasoned Pilot

Apr 29, 2020

Greg Lachenmayer is currently a 7,000+ dual-rated helicopter and fixed-wing pilot as well as an FAA-certified Flight Instructor. He received his Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Studies from Penn State University, but shortly after his graduation, decided to take his life in a different direction. He joined the U.S. Navy to become a pilot, despite never having flown in an aircraft up to that point, and earned his wings in June 1982. He was assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 12 (HS-12) in San Diego, California, where he flew SH-3H helicopters. The squadron was then reassigned to Japan, and the squadron’s deployments took him around the world.  When he returned stateside, Greg earned his MBA, left active duty to enter the “corporate world”, and joined the U.S. Navy Reserves, where he piloted Kaman’s SH-2G Seasprite.

In the late 1990s, Egypt procured several SH-2G Seasprite Helicopters and required training, specifically from individuals with “dipping sonar” experience. Greg’s background as a “dipper” operating SH-3 helicopters, along with his background piloting SH-2G aircraft, meant he was the perfect person for the job. As a result, he and his family packed up their belongings and moved to Egypt to support Kaman’s relationship with Egypt and bolster the SH-2G program. During the fifteen years he resided in Egypt, Greg conducted extensive training operations with both the Egyptian Air Force and Navy, on land and at sea.

In 2014, Greg relocated to Kaman Aerospace offices in Bloomfield, Connecticut where he supported the delivery of the SH-2G(I) to the New Zealand Navy. He continues to work as a Kaman pilot and program manager supporting our International helicopter programs. Greg is also a qualified K-MAX pilot for our commercial and military helicopter programs.
