Online Auction of Melissa Etheridge's Ovation Guitar to Benefit Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Paul Newman's Hole In The Wall Gang Camp
BLOOMFIELD, Conn., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Famous rocker Melissa Etheridge will donate her new 12-string guitar to a charity auction at HarmonyCentral Marketplace (http://marketplace.harmonycentral.com/). The guitar, the new Melissa Etheridge Signature SMT 12-string from Kaman Music Corp.'s Ovation(R) Adamas series, debuts later this summer. The SMT will list for around $2,300, and is the same model that Etheridge uses on stage and in the studio. The auction runs from June 9 through June 23, with a $1 opening bid and no reserve.
Proceeds will benefit the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and Paul Newman's Hole In The Wall Gang Camp. Fidelco is New England's only non-profit guide dog training center, while the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is a nonprofit residential summer camp for children with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.
"We're honored to host this fantastic auction," said Brian Hageman, HarmonyCentral's Director of Brokered Services. "The bidding starts at $1 with no reserve, so we expect a lot of people will get in on all of the action and help these great causes. Whoever wins will have not only a signed and valuable collector's item, but also a fantastic guitar months before anyone else. Anyone but Melissa, of course."
The SMT is the Adamas' first-ever signature instrument. Etheridge has been a proud user of their instruments since she was 14. "We're thrilled that Melissa is giving us the chance to let the world know that our 12-string is her instrument of choice," said Kaman Music's Adamas product manager Rick Hall. "Her guitar playing is an integral part of her sound. We're proud of whatever part we play in contributing to that sound."
The Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, the only guide dog school located in New England, is a non-profit organization based in Bloomfield, Conn., that breeds, raises and trains German shepherd guide dogs to be placed with men and women who are blind. Fidelco was founded in 1960 by Charles H. Kaman, chairman, Kaman Corp.
The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, founded by Paul Newman in 1988, is a non-profit residential summer camp for children with cancer or other serious blood diseases. Nearly 900 children from 7 to 15 years old come each year, free of charge, from the United States and abroad.
