Kaman Receives $5.5 Million Contract For Electric - Drive Motors For Oil and Gas Drilling Equipment

BLOOMFIELD, Conn., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaman Corporation (NASDAQ:KAMNA) today announced that a unit of its Kaman Aerospace subsidiary, the Electromagnetics Development Center in Hudson, Mass., has received a $5.5 million follow-on order from Tesco Corporation of Calgary, Alberta, Canada for additional permanent magnet motors and electronic drives for Tesco's oil and gas drilling equipment.

The new contract calls for deliveries of PA44 motors and MD-500 modular drive units beginning in December 2001. Kaman is currently delivering identical systems under a contract awarded by Tesco in January 2001.

A global provider of innovative, technology-based solutions to the upstream energy industry, Tesco pioneered the use of Kaman's advanced permanent magnet motors in the development of its Electric Top Drive product line in 1995. Kaman motors and drives are in service with Tesco throughout the world, and have earned a reputation for high performance and reliability. All of Tesco's electric top drives, spanning the range from compact, portable units for land drilling to powerful 1,350 horsepower units for offshore rigs, use Kaman motors.

Kaman's Electromagnetics Development Center is a leading developer and manufacturer of high performance electric motors, generators and drive systems for demanding applications in industry and defense.

In addition to electric motors, Kaman Aerospace manufactures SH-2G Super Seasprite and K-MAX helicopters, and is a major subcontractor for commercial and military aircraft components for Boeing airliners and the C-17 military transport, as well as various helicopters of the MD Helicopters line. Kaman Aerospace also is a leading manufacturer of fuzing components for missiles, mass memory systems, specialized aerospace cabling and electro-optic systems.
